Dear Friend:
Our teenagers in San Antonio de Cortez are facing an enormous crisis that could literally alter the rest of their lives.
There are 100 students who have completed elementary school. But without our help, they will not be accepted into Middle school and High School. In Honduras if these young people cannot get a High School education, it will leave them to a sordid life of drugs, sex trafficking and a life of crime that can only lead to incarceration. In reality, we are talking about this being a life or death crisis.
The bottom line is that each of these 100 teenagers will need a scholarship of $175 in order to enter school. This becomes an impossible amount when you consider their family annual income is only $480.
For lack of $175, 80% of girls and 70% of boys at this crucial life intersection of Jr. and Sr. High years cannot attend past 6th grade. Consequences are many and tragic, far beyond surface issues. Consider this. For those young people who cannot complete High School, the doors to University, Technical School and Careers are closed… Leading to:
--Relegation to menial jobs (when they may be found) with poor pay
--Feeling like an unwelcome drain on those with whom they live and later, a lonely life in a dilapidated, unsanitary shack
--Poor health and poorer nutrition (causing the demise of some younger children), feeling stuck in cycles of "generational poverty" and hopelessness, without value
And in the worst cases:
--Young girls believing that all they have of value is their body
-Very early pregnancies, many at 14 years, some at 11 or 12, neither consenting nor adults
--Susceptibility to drugs, gangs, cartels and, worst of all, human trafficking of themselves and their children. All these tragedies we have witnessed or have been informed of.
For those young people who complete High School, their chances of attaining success are multiplied exponentially! (By the way, students receive a new Bible and continued local Pastor’s follow up!)
Their chances at a new fulfilling life where they can literally be all that God designed them to be, only costs $175.
Bottom line, YOU CAN MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE in the life of a teenager! We humbly ask for your help. If you have not contributed, we ask that you do so. If you have contributed, would you consider supporting another student or more? Would you consider making others aware of this opportunity? We, not to mention the students, will be so grateful!
If you are not able to give $175, please pray about a scholarship for ½ year or $87.50. By uniting together and believing God for his provision, I believe with all my heart we can together provide life saving scholarships for all 100 students.
Thank you for your faithfulness to From Hand To Heart!
YOURS for the least of these,
